As part of its mission to promote sustainable energy innovation across Africa, HydroAfricaEnergy, an independent pan-African initiative dedicated to energy transition and climate issues, is honored to award its Grand Innovation Prize to:

Mr. Aliou Boubacar Diallo

Founder and President of

Recognition of Pioneering Leadership in Natural Hydrogen

This international distinction recognizes Mr. Aliou Boubacar Diallo’s significant contribution to the development and global recognition of natural hydrogen (geologic hydrogen) as an emerging field of research and energy exploration.

At a time when hydrogen was primarily considered from the perspective of industrial production, the hypothesis of naturally occurring hydrogen resources within the subsurface was still subject to scientific debate.

Through Hydroma Inc, Mr. Diallo supported a structured approach aimed at scientifically exploring the potential of naturally occurring hydrogen present in deep geological formations.

The Bourakébougou Site: An International Reference

Work conducted at the Bourakébougou site in Mali has contributed to drawing international attention to the existence of naturally occurring hydrogen in the subsurface.

This site has progressively become a reference point in academic and industrial discussions related to geologic hydrogen, fostering:

  • The expansion of scientific research programs

  • The emergence of new strategic energy debates

  • A deeper understanding of Africa’s natural resource potential

Hydroma Inc: Structuring an Emerging Sector

Under the leadership of Mr. Aliou Boubacar Diallo, Hydroma Inc positioned itself among the first companies globally to undertake a structured exploration initiative dedicated to natural hydrogen.

This approach has contributed to:

  • Advancing the scientific legitimacy of geologic hydrogen research

  • Stimulating international academic and industrial interest

  • Integrating Africa into global energy innovation dynamics

A Strategic Contribution to the Global Energy Transition

In a global context marked by the search for low-carbon solutions, natural hydrogen is now an expanding field of study.

The vision carried forward by Mr. Diallo illustrates Africa’s capacity to actively participate in the evolution of global energy paradigms — not only as a resource-bearing territory, but also as a space for initiative, research, and innovation.

Scope of the Distinction

The HydroAfricaEnergy Grand Prize seeks to recognize individuals and institutions contributing significantly to the emergence of new energy perspectives, while fostering international scientific and strategic dialogue.

By honoring Mr. Aliou Boubacar Diallo, HydroAfricaEnergy acknowledges:

  • A forward-looking vision

  • A structuring contribution to an emerging field

  • African leadership within a rapidly evolving energy sector
