HydroAfricaEnergy Organizes a Major Climate Awareness and Solar PV Training Session in Bamako

On July 4, 5, and 7, 2026, the Pan-African initiative HydroAfricaEnergy organized a major climate change awareness and photovoltaic solar energy training session at the Women, Children and Family Center of Sabalibougou, in Bamako.

This activity, entirely led by volunteers committed to climate action and sustainable development in Africa, aimed to inform, raise awareness, and strengthen participants’ capacities regarding climate challenges and sustainable energy solutions adapted to African realities.

The opening ceremony was attended by several personalities and stakeholders committed to local development and environmental protection.

HydroAfricaEnergy had the honor of welcoming, among others:

A representative of the Chief of Sabalibougou;
The 3rd Deputy Mayor of Commune V of the District of Bamako, in charge of environmental issues;
Representatives of youth associations and civil society organizations;
Numerous students, technicians, entrepreneurs, and citizens interested in energy and environmental issues.

The initiative also benefited from the participation of recognized experts, notably Dr. Raymond Kodio, PhD in Sustainable Development Sciences and socio-anthropologist, as well as Dr. Sunny Akuopha, former Rotary International District Governor for 2022–2023 and Managing Director of Niger Sahel Énergie.

Day One: Understanding the Challenges of Climate Change

The first day focused on raising awareness about climate change.

Participants explored the main causes of global warming, its consequences for African populations, and possible solutions to reduce its impacts.

Discussions covered:

Greenhouse gas emissions;
Increasingly frequent droughts and floods;
Degradation of agricultural land;
Energy challenges associated with the use of fossil fuels;
The importance of energy efficiency and energy conservation.

Participants were also introduced to the opportunities offered by renewable energy to support sustainable development across the African continent.

Day Two: Theoretical Training in Photovoltaic Solar Energy

The second day was dedicated to theoretical training in photovoltaic solar energy.

During this session, participants explored several key topics:

The fundamentals of solar radiation;
The photovoltaic effect;
Different types of solar panels;
The role of batteries, charge controllers, and inverters;
Different methods of connecting solar panels and batteries;
Equipment selection criteria;
The principles of solar system sizing.

Group exercises enabled participants to learn how to calculate energy consumption, size solar panels, select appropriate batteries, and choose equipment according to users’ specific needs.

Day Three: From Theory to Practice

The final day focused on putting the knowledge acquired during the training into practice.

Participants had the opportunity to handle different solar energy components and discover the key stages involved in installing a photovoltaic system:

Identifying the various components;
Wiring the equipment;
Connecting solar panels and batteries;
Checking electrical parameters;
Commissioning a solar energy system;
Following safety procedures.

This practical approach strengthened participants’ understanding and provided them with their first hands-on experience in the field.

A Vision for the Africa of Tomorrow

Through this initiative, HydroAfricaEnergy reaffirms its conviction that Africa possesses the human and natural resources needed to become a major player in the global energy transition.

The organization is therefore pursuing its mission to:

Inform communities about climate challenges;
Raise citizens’ awareness of environmental issues;
Promote renewable energy;
Showcase African sustainable innovations;
Train a new generation of young people committed to careers in energy and sustainable development.
